    • Election commission:
      • The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering Union and State election processes in India.

      • Article 324 to 329 of the constitution deals with powers, function, tenure, eligibility, etc of the commission and the member.
    • Representation of People Act, 1951
      • Articles 324 to 329 of Part XV of the Indian Constitution provides for the country’s electoral system.
      • The Constitution confers upon the Parliament the power to enact laws for all matters connected with elections to the Parliament and the State Legislature.
      • Hence, parliament has enacted RPA, 1950 and RPA 1951.
      • This Act makes provisions for the conduct of elections in India.
      • It also talks about corruption and other illegal activities related to elections.
      • The Act makes provisions for dispute redressal in matters connected to elections.
      • It also talks about the qualification as well as grounds for the disqualification of MPs and MLAs.

Conclusion:

  • Jharkhand boasts of 40 percent of India’s mineral reserves and nearly 30% of country’s coal deposits.
  • But the states’s record in the governance of these resources has been marred by frequent scams and political instability.
  • EC must step in to prevent further misuse of office and should take necessary steps.
